Sightings in Roswell, New Mexico

Today, we made the hour drive over to Roswell.  Our first destination was the Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge.  It's about 7 miles east of Roswell.  We weren't sure what we would see, as we were driving out all we saw was flat, dry land.

We arrived at the refuge, signed in at the visitor's center and began our drive.  There are several freshwater marshes with the road going by them as well as going up hills in order to get more of a vista view.

We were beginning to think we were not going to see a thing until we spotted this red-winged blackbird.  We were able to get a picture of it in flight.

Next, we saw a White-faced Ibis.  He really glistened in the sun.

Next, we saw this pair of Black-necked Stilts.

We ended our visit at the National Wildlife Reserve at a boardwalk bird blind.  We didn't see any birds, but we did see a wolf with our binoculars and scope on the other side of the pond.  That was a first for us.  I'm just real glad it was on the other side of the pond.

We left the Wildlife Reserve and headed into Roswell.  This town takes aliens to a whole new level.  Everything is alien in Roswell.

The playground

the street lights

the coke machines

even McDonald's, the only McDonald's in the world built like a spaceship.

So...we made the visit to the UFO Museum downtown.

It was interesting.  There were lots of articles and pictures detailing the Roswell incident in 1947 where it was reported that an alien ship crashed and there were aliens onboard.  There was lots of documentation, but I'm still not sure.

There was a full-size replica of a ship and aliens and Jim had to get in the middle of it.

The day was filled with things that fly, some real, others we're not quite sure.  :)

  1. What fun! Roswell looks like a kooky place. I'd probably like it. Bob would probably walk or read a book.

Aren't the black-necked stilts beautiful? They came through Hawaii at a certain time of year. We used to see them on walks in Oahu.

    1. Susan, the black-necked stilts were beautiful. Roswell was pretty sleepy when we were there, but I bet it's a real zoo when they have special events.
