Change of Plans and Another Travel Day

Sunday, we decided to try the buffet in the Black Bear Restaurant at the Indian Lodge.

Indian Lodge was built in the 1930's by the CCC.  It is nestled into the mountains with great views.

We had a great meal and then returned home to prepare to leave on Monday.
After watching the weather Sunday night, we decided it might be better to stay one more day and leave on Tuesday.  It looked like there would be a wall of showers from Fort Davis all the way to Carlsbad, New Mexico.

We were glad we stayed the extra day.  We had some torrential showers, wind and even hail! It was sure better riding the storm out rather than driving through it.  Here's a picture outside during the storm, that white stuff is hail.

This morning, the sun was out.  Our drive would be about 185 miles to Lakewood, New Mexico about 20 miles from Carlsbad. There is an Escapees SKP park, The Ranch, with great rates, there was a printout on the internet for $50 a week plus electricity.  We thought that would be a good base to explore southern New Mexico.

We arrived about 1:45, forgetting we gained an hour, it was 12:45

and the office was closed for lunch.  As we were walking the dogs and waiting for the office to reopen, a couple came to welcome us.  Then, once we had set up the trailer, we had other visitors welcoming us and bringing us a packet of maps and things in the area as well as inviting us to happy hour.  Jim and I went to happy hour and we were given a warm welcome there as well.  It's stated they are the friendliest Escapees' park and they certainly were to us.
