Living Desert Zoo

Living Desert Zoo and Gardens is located on a hill overlooking Carlsbad.  We went there today to check it out.  Upon arrival, we were greeted with this metal sculpture.

We went inside, paid our admission and began the 1.3 mile self-guided tour.

It was a beautiful day with a slight breeze.  There are a variety of desert plants as well as some rescue animals.  There were a pair of roadrunners in the aviary.  We were able to get a good closeup of one of them.  It is extremely hard to get a picture of a roadrunner, they seem to always be running.

The stars of the place, though, are the desert plants throughout the park.  It's a peaceful, beautiful place to spend a couple of hours.

We got back to the park about 4 and joined a group of Escapees for dinner at a steakhouse in Artesia.  It was a great way to end the day.
