The Red Rocks of Sedona

The small town of Sedona is just about 20 miles from us, so that was our destination today.  We went into town on Highway 179 stopping at the National Forest Service Visitor's Information Headquarters.

Our first look at those red rocks!

At the Visitor's Center, we received a trail map and got recommendations for hikes and drives.

Our first stop was a hike up to Bell Rock.  We were about 3/4 mile away here.

We headed into the little town of

We took another road to see Cathedral Rock.

Next, we came to the Chapel of the Holy Cross.  We took the drive up to the top so we could see the view.

Before we reached the top, we caught this view of the rocks and this house, pretty spectacular.

The view from the top where the Chapel is located is not too bad either.

We then headed to another overlook where artists were painting.  It definitely is a view for a picture!

Another shot of red rocks.

The volunteer at the forest service said if we weren't tired of red rocks and views to take the drive on 89A towards Flagstaff.  This is a road we would not drive the fifth wheel on, there are lots of curves and steep grades.

We reached the top with this view of the country below.

We headed back down towards Sedona and as we were leaving town saw Airport Road.  We had remembered being told earlier in the morning to be sure and go to the top of this road.

What a view!  A picture can't do it justice, but I will try.

We loved our time in Sedona and will hopefully go back later this week to do some more of the hikes.

  1. Wish I was there! This is where I have been trying to move to for years. There is a Thousand Trails park in Cottonwood,AZ and I thought I could make it my "home". Health problems keep me off the road right now,but maybe later in the year!
