Storms, Water, and Bluebonnets

The storms did come.  There was a tornado just southeast of us, but luckily, the worst of the storm seemed to go around us.  I didn't go to bed until 1:30 after the storm had passed.  I was watching the weather radar on the computer making sure there were no other warnings.

When we woke up this morning, the sun was out and it was the beginning of a beautiful day.  We decided to go to Fredericksburg to see the bluebonnets.  Our winter has been so mild this year, they are out about a month early.

First, we walked over to the lakebed to see if there was any change.  It has been dried up for awhile, but today there was a river running through it!

We left for our drive to Fredericksburg.  Approximately 12 miles from Fredericksburg, is one of the prettiest drives in Texas during the spring on Willow Loop.

Bluebonnets were abundant along the road.

After the rain, brooks and streams were flowing everywhere.

It took us about one and a half hours to make the drive looking at the beautiful sights.

We returned later in the afternoon and received a call from Camping World that our part was in.  So, we are headed back on Wednesday night to spend the night there for our 8 a.m appointment on Thursday.

Keeping Cool

We arrived at Thousand Trails and found a great shaded spot.  We opened all of the windows and had a wonderful breeze blowing through.

The deer are abundant here and love to graze behind and around our rv.

Gary and Lisa came out on Sunday for a visit. We spent the afternoon visiting with them.

Today, we spent the day catching up on chores and we did get our pickle ball racquets out and played.

This evening, we put up things outside in anticipation for the storms predicted this evening.

Back at Medina Lake/Repair Problems

On Sunday, we realized our heat pump wasn't heating and the air conditioner wasn't cooling. Monday, Jim made an appointment with Camping World for Thursday when we would be passing through New Braunfels.  Then, on Monday,  the thermostat stopped functioning and we couldn't use the furnace or the air conditioner in the bedroom.  Luckily, the weather cooperated with us and we were able to make it through the rest of our visit with the kids and grandkids in Austin.  We left Wednesday afternoon and spent the night at Camping World so we would be there for our 8 a.m. appointment.

We left CW and went to eat breakfast, then drove to Buda to meet our great nephew and visit with our sister in law, Susan.  We had a great visit and of course, little Camden is precious.  Then, we got the call from Camping World telling us the part was a board in the ac that controlled pretty much everything. Of course, they did not have one, would have to order it from Dometic and it would not be here until Monday or Tuesday.  Jim tried to get them to overnight it, but CW told him that was not possible.  I'm not really sure why.  He called Dometic, but they were not helpful either.  We just hope the weather holds out for us.  We went to Lowe's and found a little room air conditioner we can use if the heat becomes too unbearable.

We decided to go on to the Thousand Trails at Medina Lake and wait until the part came in.  Hopefully, we can get everything taken care of before we leave for Big Bend next Saturday.

Segs In The City

We had purchased Segway tours of Austin on Living Social and decided today would be a perfect day to go.  The weather was perfect!

We arrived at SegCity for our tour. First, we went through an orientation on operating the Segway.

It was time to take off!  It is Spring Break and South By Southwest is also taking place in Austin.  Needless to say, downtown was crazy.  We set off through the people.  I was really apprehensive at first, but I have to say the whole experience was awesome! We went all around the Capitol, through downtown, past 6th Street, over the bridge crossing Lady Bird Lake, and over to the Palmer Event Center weaving in and out the columns at the Palmer Event Center and then back again.

Our guide was great getting us through all of the crowds and always looking out for our safety.  It was a fun time that I would recommend to anyone.

More McKinney Falls and an Accidental Rain

The rains came and they just kept coming. It was still raining Saturday, but we decided to meet our friends, Byron and Linda, for a movie and dinner.  We went to see This Means War, we all liked it, even the guys.  Afterwards, the guys went in one car to dinner and Linda and I went in hers.  We were on our way to the restaurant visiting when, I'm not sure exactly how it happened, but while making a turn the car veered over too far on the other side jumping the curb and then seemed like it flew to the other side of the road jumping that curb and heading towards a telephone pole.  I was bracing for the crash waiting for the air bag to go off.  We stopped and I realized I was still o.k. and we hadn't hit the pole.  I asked Linda if she was o.k., she was.  We were both kind of sitting there in shock.  I tried to call Jim, but he didn't answer his phone.  Then, Linda tried to call her husband.  I got out to see where exactly the car was, the front bumper was wrapped around a small post. At the time, we didn't realize there was a yield sign bent under the car.  While, Linda was trying to call her husband, I noticed two fire trucks with their sirens on, but didn't realize they were coming to us until they arrived along with two police cars.  Of course, they asked if we were o.k. and then helped to back the car out.  Our husbands then arrived, the tow truck came, and we decided to go ahead with our dinner plans, We were just so grateful that we were o.k. We knew God had taken care of us!

Sunday morning, it was still raining, but about 10:00, the skies started clearing and the sun came out!!!

The plan today was to pick up all three granddaughters and bring them back to the "camping house" for a sleepover.

When we got back, we hiked to McKinney Falls.  It was really flowing after the rain.

The girls posed by the falls.

We came back and it was time for s'mores and roasted marshmallows!

What a wonderful end to a wonderful day!

Birthdays, Visiting, & Rain

We spent Tuesday and Wednesday in San Antonio visiting our parents.  We had really good visits with everyone.  Thursday, we arrived in Austin at McKinney Falls State Park.  Rain is supposed to move in today, but luckily we got setup before any rain fell.  Today is Daryl's (our middle granddaughter) 6th birthday and we went over to her house to celebrate!

It was also her school's open house, so we went along and met her teacher and saw her classroom. By the time we left, the weather had changed and the wind was blowing from the north.  The rain began about 10:30 p.m.

Lake Corpus Christi State Park

We arrived at Lake Corpus Christi State Park on Tuesday and will be here until next Tuesday. We have just been relaxing. Jim played golf yesterday and I have been on the internet watching webinars and working on my family tree in ancestry.com.

We have a great big backyard where we can sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather!

We hung our bird feeder in a tree and have several visitors.

This is an Audobon's Oriole

A pair of green jays have also visited.

And of course, if there's a bird feeder, a squirrel will find it.

We have lots of roads to ride our bicycles and last night we rode up to the observation deck

to see the sunset.

It's a wonderful way to end the day!
