We took our time and arrived in the Flamingo Campground in Everglades National Park about 2:00. The campground is about 35 miles from the entrance at the southern tip of Florida.
Flamingo campground has tent sites with no hookups and trailer sites with 50 amps. We had to take on water before parking. The sites are spread out and we have no neighbors on one side. Surprisingly, we have AT&T service on our cell phones, but our Verizon mifi for internet does not work. We had heard the Verizon signal was not received in this campground.
After we got set up, we went down to the visitor's center which is about 1/2 a mile from the campground.
We liked this mosquito meter. Today they were bearable with a breeze blowing, but I think the evenings are worse.
Outside the visitor's center, by the marina, a manatee and her calf have been hanging out. We were lucky enough to see the "mama".
There was also a huge osprey nest at the top of a pole. The man inside the marina had told us he had worked there three years and the nest was there before him.
I caught another "nature" moment when the "mother osprey" fed her baby part of this fish.
We're going to be here a week and are looking forward to seeing another of our National Parks!
Great photos.
