Big Cypress National Preserve

We left the rally to make our way to the Everglades.  We had a 225 miles drive to Flamingo Campground in the Everglades National Park so we stopped halfway at the Midway Campground in the Big Cypress National Preserve.

Midway is a Corps of Engineers campground.  All of the sites circle around a little lake in the middle.  After we got set up, we drove over to the Visitor's Center about three miles down the road.

We were really able to see alligators here!  There is a ditch with water that goes down one side of the road and the 'gators were out in force this beautiful, sunny day.

We were fascinated watching them swim.

We even had one showing off his teeth for us. :)

We saw other sights of nature,

this Anhinga drying off its feathers,

another Anhinga trying to figure out how it was going to eat this fish,

and a Wood Stork admiring its reflection.

We also marveled at the way all of the animals seemed to live in harmony, at least for the moment.

That evening, we visited with our new friends Tony and Shirley.  They were parked next to us at the boondocking rally and then found out they were headed to Midway Campground that evening too.  We spent a few moments sitting outside until we were chased by the mosquitoes inside their motorhome to continue our visit.  Thanks Tony and Shirley, we had a great time and hope to see you again!
