Travel Day Through Yellowstone and Henry's Lake State Park

Today was a travel day.  It would be about 150 miles from Cody across Yellowstone to West Yellowstone and then on to Henry's Lake State Park in Idaho.

We got up at 5:30 and pulled out of the rv park at 7:00.  We arrived at the east gate of Yellowstone a little after 8 and had no waiting to get in.  We were glad we had made the trip on Friday.  We knew exactly where to go and where the slow downs would be.  Luckily, we got there early enough we never really had any major delays.

We got to the other side of Yellowstone and noticed there was an extremely long line to get in at the West Yellowstone gate.  I have no idea why there was such a line.  We have made a note to ourselves that we must get out early in the morning.

We arrived at Henry's Lake State Park about 11:00.  The park is about 14 miles from the west gate of Yellowstone and we thought it would be a good home base for the next two weeks to explore Yellowstone.  It will take us longer to get back than if we were in the park, but it will be away from the hustle and bustle of the crowds there.

We have a wonderful sight overlooking the lake with the mountains in the background. Our rv is the one on the right by the trees and just right of the trail.

A storm came through this afternoon cooling temperatures down to the 70's.  We took a walk along the boardwalk at sunset and the temperature was 66 degrees.

We are going to have some beautiful sunsets here.

We also saw this beaver out in the water.

The colors of the sunset looked like an artist's palette.

Hopefully, we will get an early start tomorrow and our plan is to begin exploring the geyser basin at Yellowstone.
